Fruit Discovery - Cleansing

Introducing: the Cocktail Grapefruit!

Grapefruits are one of my favorite fruits, so it was a pleasant surprise to see this black sheep of the grapefruit family sitting on the fruit shelf at the grocery store.

I was surprised by just about everything this fruit had to offer:
  • Green skin.
  • Yellow inside.
  • Tons, tons of seeds.
Taste of a lime and an orange (?) combined.
(haven't quite nailed down what it is)

I chose not to purchase more of this fruit because it took a lot of work to get the meat out of it. Even using a knife wasn't much help. However my dear friend MK (who does not like grapefruits) bought three the next time we went to the store! (We split the test fruit above.)

17 Day Diet?

My roommate has discovered the "17 Day Diet".
Now I'm not really into diets...but this is more for cleansing's sake.
This "diet" coincidentally has fallen on New Years day!

Anyway, if you're interested, here's the link: v-e-g-i-t-a-b-l-e-s.

(Hence the over-piling of clementines and tangerines.)

Oven Hotdogs Mastered!

After discovering there was such a thing as "oven hotdogs" I knew I had to try it for myself, being a chili-dog lover. I must credit In the Wabe for such a delicious discovery.

On these little babies: mayonnaise, relish, chili, onions, and cheese

And they were so good!

Nikkor Lenses

This is the lowest depth of  field I could obtain from my standard Nikkor 55mm lens (F/3.5)

After blog thrifting, I have come to the realization that I need (another) lens that will allow me to shoot with an F/1.4 opening to get the depth of field that I so desire.

(Gotjazz23's Photo shot at F/1.4)

(Swenstone's photo F/1.4)

I feel like I just got my camera (Nikon D5000) and lenses (standard Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-F/5.6 & Nikkor Micro 105mm F/2.8) --- about 1 year ago.

I have loved every minute with my DSLR...but it is time to grow my lens family.

(between the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF D and the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AFS G)
I just can't quite capture "the look" with my current lenses.
1. My standard lens doesn't have a high enough F-stop (a little too much focus)
2. My micro lens is the most wonderful thing, yet everything is out of focus...

So an in-between is just what I need, and that F/1.4 is the solution!
This lens can be purchased for a pretty penny right HERE.

Now I would have to be pretty serious to invest in this:
PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED

This is a Perspective Control Micro lens.
This lens basically accomplishes what a large format box camera can do.
I just completed my large format photography class this fall. Hallelujah!!

(MikeWolff's photo using Perspective Lens)

I can absolutely appreciate those who have the heart and energy to shoot large format, but if I could accomplish this with a DSLR lens, YES, yes, and yes.

But you will be paying for your interest.

Tom Dixon - A Play on The 1960s

Tom Dixon is a British design and manufacturing company specializing in lighting and furniture.

I love these globe shapes. It immediately reminded me of the 1960s:

French globes

Canadian pierced brass globes

Italian Venini hand blown globe

Of all the lamps shown here...these might possibly be my favorites!

All of the 1960s lamps (non-Tom Dixon) were found at 1stdibs.
