This is the lowest depth of field I could obtain from my standard Nikkor 55mm lens (F/3.5)
After blog thrifting, I have come to the realization that I need (another) lens that will allow me to shoot with an F/1.4 opening to get the depth of field that I so desire.
(Gotjazz23's Photo shot at F/1.4)
(Swenstone's photo F/1.4)
I feel like I just got my camera (Nikon D5000) and lenses (standard Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-F/5.6 & Nikkor Micro 105mm F/2.8) --- about 1 year ago.
I have loved every minute with my DSLR...but it is time to grow my lens family.
(between the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF D and the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AFS G)
I just can't quite capture "the look" with my current lenses.
1. My standard lens doesn't have a high enough F-stop (a little too much focus)
2. My micro lens is the most wonderful thing, yet everything is out of focus...
So an in-between is just what I need, and that F/1.4 is the solution!
This lens can be purchased for a pretty penny right HERE.
Now I would have to be pretty serious to invest in this:
PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED
This is a Perspective Control Micro lens.
This lens basically accomplishes what a large format box camera can do.
I just completed my large format photography class this fall. Hallelujah!!
I can absolutely appreciate those who have the heart and energy to shoot large format, but if I could accomplish this with a DSLR lens, YES, yes, and yes.
But you will be paying for your interest.
