Nikkor Lenses
This is the lowest depth of field I could obtain from my standard Nikkor 55mm lens (F/3.5)
After blog thrifting, I have come to the realization that I need (another) lens that will allow me to shoot with an F/1.4 opening to get the depth of field that I so desire.
(Gotjazz23's Photo shot at F/1.4)
(Swenstone's photo F/1.4)
I feel like I just got my camera (Nikon D5000) and lenses (standard Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-F/5.6 & Nikkor Micro 105mm F/2.8) --- about 1 year ago.
I have loved every minute with my DSLR...but it is time to grow my lens family.
(between the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF D and the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AFS G)
I just can't quite capture "the look" with my current lenses.
1. My standard lens doesn't have a high enough F-stop (a little too much focus)
2. My micro lens is the most wonderful thing, yet everything is out of focus...
So an in-between is just what I need, and that F/1.4 is the solution!
This lens can be purchased for a pretty penny right HERE.
Now I would have to be pretty serious to invest in this:
PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED
This is a Perspective Control Micro lens.
This lens basically accomplishes what a large format box camera can do.
I just completed my large format photography class this fall. Hallelujah!!
I can absolutely appreciate those who have the heart and energy to shoot large format, but if I could accomplish this with a DSLR lens, YES, yes, and yes.
But you will be paying for your interest.

Tom Dixon - A Play on The 1960s
Tom Dixon is a British design and manufacturing company specializing in lighting and furniture.

I love these globe shapes. It immediately reminded me of the 1960s:
French globes
Canadian pierced brass globes
Italian Venini hand blown globe

American 1960s globes
Of all the lamps shown here...these might possibly be my favorites!

All of the 1960s lamps (non-Tom Dixon) were found at 1stdibs.

Print Digging
Love these prints via Renegade Handmade:
This print is some how drawing me in: Orange Print
Maybe it's the fact that it's Christmas time, but I love the simplicity of these trees:
What a neat way of thinking. Good food for inspiration!:
This one would be especially pleasing to my printmaking roommate:
Homemade Vanilla Extract
I am just amazed.
All it takes to make homemade vanilla extract is Vodka + vanilla beans(!!!)
After researching a bit, I realized why vanilla is so expensive.
I found this recipe on http://www.foodgawker.com/ via Petite Kitchenesse.
I found this picture on The Little Teochew.

Since We're on the Topic of Daddy...
These are the types of messes he leaves behind, and when I'm home in Augusta, I am pretty quickly reminded of them. But more importantly...
No, we don't own a restraunt. No, I don't have 7 brothers and sisters. My dad just LOVES buying HUGE quantities of everything...well, anything you can get from SAM's. So, maybe if we didn't have a huge tub of relish, and we didn't have to funnel relish into smaller bottles, then we wouldn't have these types of messes!!
(I still love my Daddy though.)
